Hello! I am new to the Therapeutic Approach Health Centre team and am so happy to be here among the warm and talented professionals in this practice. I am a registered clinical psychologist, and I work with individuals 19 years-of-age and over.
To be human is to experience both enjoyment and suffering, and I believe we are all born with an innate capacity to adapt, heal, and grow in the face of our suffering, and sometimes even because of it. Both Western psychotherapy practice and Eastern notions of mindfulness have found support in scientific research on healing and wellness, and I combine both to help my clients on their healing path.
I have had the privilege and honour of serving people from all walks of life, with a wide variety of concerns, including anxiety, depressed mood, emotion regulation, self-esteem/self-worth, grief, work and general life stress, insomnia/sleep difficulties, transitions, relationship problems (personal and professional), family-of-origin problems, and more.
Because each client’s context and perspective is unique, I draw from a number of therapies to meet the individual client’s needs and interests, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT – sometimes referred to as “Third-Wave CBT”), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Though psychotherapy is sometimes called “Talk Therapy”, my approach is highly experiential and wholistic, which means I invite and nurture the active involvement of the whole person, including mind, emotions, and “felt sense” (the body’s response to our experiences), as all three can provide us with wisdom and direction.
I create a warm, relaxed therapeutic space for my clients and make building a trusting relationship my first priority. When given the opportunity to explore both our difficulties and our strengths in a safe and compassionate environment, we can cultivate skills and understanding that can activate our own “inner healer.” It is my goal to collaboratively foster this experience with my clients.
